Target Consumers
Our target consumer is adults, primarily 50 years of age or older. The reason we chose this age group is because on average, older people tend to lose things more or forget where they put something and have trouble finding it. I believe most of our buyers will be around the age of 50.
Design specifications
- Customer Needs. What does the customer want/need?
A solution to losing remotes that is cheap and efficient. - Performance. What must the product be able to do? Be specific.
Make sure the TV remote does not get lost in the first place. - Target Cost. What is the anticipated cost to the consumer for this product?
Approximately $10 to $20. - Size and Weight. What size should the product be, or what restrictions to size exist? What are the weight restrictions on the product?
About the size of a shoebox, with a weight of about 5 to 10 pounds. - Aesthetics. Are there preferences in the appearance features of the product (color, surface treatment, shape, material)? If so, describe them.
It will be smooth and stained black with built in LEDs and a cup holder to enhance its appearance and versatility. - Materials. Is there a specific material or materials that must be used? If yes, describe it.
We plan to use stained wood to build our product. - Safety and Legal Issues. Identify potential safety and legal issues that may arise from the use of this product.
Safety and legal issues involved with wood include the possibility of splinters if it breaks or wears down, and also the possibility of a fire. - Ergonomics. Identify considerations for the ergonomics of the product.
If our product is used properly, it should be completely efficient with regards to its original purpose. - Operating Environment. Identify the environmental conditions relevant to the manufacture and use of the product (temperature, corrosion potential, dust or dirt, pressure, humidity, vibration, noise, degree of abuse, etc.).
Our product will be used inside, so dirt and humidity and other conditions are irrelevant. However, it could get dusty just like any other object and it could be sensitive to high temperatures because it will be made of wood. - Global Environment. Will the product include any toxic or dangerous substances? What is the plan for disposal of the product at the end of its useful life?
There will be no toxic or dangerous substances included. - Service Life. What is the required service life of the product?
Since it is made of wood, it should last a long time. However, the LEDs need to be replaced periodically if the bulbs burn out. - Product Life. What is the anticipated length of time that the product will be produced before it is replaced by a newer version or alternate product?
The anticipated length of time before it is replaced it about 10 to 15 years, simply because as newer remotes are produced, people will come up with more specific solutions. - Durability and Maintenance. Will the product require routine maintenance during its service life? If yes, answer the following.
This product will not require maintenance besides replacing the LEDs.- What specific parts of the product must have easy access for maintenance?
The LED compartments. - What is the anticipated maintenance schedule?
However long the lightbulb lasts until the bulb burns out, anywhere from half a year to a year and a half depending on the amount of usage. - Are special tools required? How will they be acquired?
Special tools are not required. - Will replacement parts be required? How will they be acquired?
Just the LEDs, can be bought for cheap at the store.
- What specific parts of the product must have easy access for maintenance?
