Hydrogen cells
Hydrogen cells are fuel cells that turn hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity, heat, and water. They are just like a small battery, they both convert energy by a chemical reaction into usable energy. Unlike a battery the fuel cell will produce electricity as long as hydrogen is supplied, batteries lose their charge. To use a hydrogen cell you pour water inside both sides of the cell and close off the end so water can’t get out. Then you turn the cell over and wait about ten minutes. You will see water rising to the top of the cell which means it is working. After your fuel cell is full of water on top and no water on the bottom then that means your fuel cell is fully charged and is ready to produce electricity.

Solar Panels
A solar panel works by allowing photons to knock electrons free from atoms generating a flow of electricity. The suns ray has photovoltaic cells that acts as a photosensitive diode that converts light into electricity. People harvest the electricity and power their house and house hold items. A solar panel is made of silicon. The silicon cells join together to form a circuit. Solar panels are nice to have but they are very expensive. They normally cost around fifteen to twenty-nine thousand dollars. They are lower your electric bill by a lot so it kind of evens out.

Knowledge of Series and Parallel Circuits
A series circuit is a circuit that contains only one path for current flow. If the path is open anywhere in the circuit, current stops flowing to all components. Some characteristics of a series circuit is that if the current flowing through every series component is equal. Also the total resistance is equal to the sum of all the resistances. Also the sum of all voltage drops is equal to the total applied voltage. In a parallel circuit, it contains more than one path for current flow. If a component is removed, then it is possible for the current to take another path to reach other components. Some characteristics of a parallel circuit is the voltage across every parallel component is equal. The total resistance is equal to the reciprocal of the sum of the reciprocal. Also the sum of all of the currents in each branch is equal to the total current.

Reflection
I was very excited to start building a solar panel car. First we had to decide how we were going to build are car. We wanted to do something different than everyone else so we used different wheels, made the car shorter, and had two levels to put the bread board, solar panel, and hydrogen fuel cell. After we finished building the car we charged up the hydrogen cell by using a light hitting the solar panel connected to the fuel cell. Then we made the circuit which wasn’t that difficult. Then we connected a battery to our car to make the car move and from the battery a wire was connected to the bread board. Next after our hydrogen fuel cell was charged we connected wires from the bread board to the cell and are car started to move! I think our car was a little faster than everyone else’s. I can’t wait to when we race our cars. I think our car is going to win.
